Lucas Goes The Distance, Bobcats Sweep Golden Eagles
The Bobcats swept Kent State Tuscarawas in a non conference double header by scores of 8-1 and 16-4. Riley Day led the offensive with 4 hits including 2 homeruns, 7 RBIs, and 5 runs scored. John Costella had 3 hits, Logan Wunderle had 3 hits, and Torrey Roper had three more extra base hits comprised of 2 doubles and his OCCAC best 7th homerun; he drove in 4.
Game 1
Dustyn Lucas went the distance on the mound for the Bobcats in game 1 throwing the first complete game in B&SC (OH) history. Lucas threw 64 of his 110 pitches for strikes and was an out away from a two hit shutout before the Golden Eagles first baseman, Owen Poland, deposited one in the right center gap for an RBI double to spoil it with 2 outs in the 7th. Lucas went 7 innings surrendering just the one run on three hits and three walks while striking out four. With these games being the first of 10 scheduled contests for the Bobcats between now and next Sunday the performance from Lucas could go a long way in keeping the bullpen fresh for the longest week of the season. John Costella got the Bobcats on the board in the first with a sac fly to right field scoring Homage to make the score 1-0 Bobcats and it would stay that way for the next three frames as Lucas and Eagles starter Mason Eicher put zero after zero on the board. Riley Day would add another run for the Bobcats with his 6th home run of the year in the 4th inning, and an error and some good baserunning would bring Koby Zupko home on the Jackson Homage ground out in the 5th to make it 3-0 Bobcats. The bats would get going in the 6th as a walk, a hit batter, and 5 Bobcat hits headlined by a Tylor Wolfe rocket into right center for a triple would plate 5 runs in the inning to make the score 8-0. The Eagles would tack on one in the 7th before Lucas was able to finish it out, Bobcats win 8-1.
Game 2
The Bobcat bats picked up right where they left off in the bottom of the 6th of game one as they scored 4 runs in the first and put up a crooked number in all five of the innings played. Chris Kross got the start for the Bobcats tossing the first 3 innings allowing 4 runs, 2 earned, on 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3. Loudan Braun would throw a clean 4th with one strike out out of the pen and Kade Compeau would work around a 45 minute rain delay to throw a clean top of the 5th also striking out one. The Bobcats would load the bases in the bottom of the 5th up 12-4 before Torrey Roper hit a walk off grand slam to end the ball game with the final score of 16-4.
These wins move the Bobcats record to 18-6 on the season, they are back in action Monday at Ashland University where they will be playing the Eagles JV squad in a non-conference double header.
