Bobcats Battle but Fall to Southeastern Illinois in USCAA Quarterfinal
BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Bryant & Stratton College (Ohio) men's basketball team battled until the final buzzer Tuesday night but came up short against Southeastern Illinois College, falling 85–79 in the USCAA Division I National Championship Quarterfinal at Villa Maria College.
The Bobcats (18-11) showed resilience throughout the contest, responding to an early deficit and putting together a strong second-half push to keep the game within reach against one of the tournament's top teams.
Bryant & Stratton trailed 40-32 at halftime, but came out aggressive after the break. The Bobcats scored 47 second-half points, attacking the basket and knocking down perimeter shots to stay within striking distance late in the game.
Tareeq Roper led Bryant & Stratton with 20 points and six assists, connecting on four three-pointers and controlling the tempo offensively.
Detric Hearst added 18 points and four rebounds, continuing his strong play as one of the Bobcats' primary scoring threats.
Phillip Byrd delivered an efficient performance with 11 points and five rebounds, while Greg Thurman contributed nine points and helped anchor the defensive effort.
Off the bench, Dondi Harper provided an important spark with nine points, including three shots from beyond the arc, helping the Bobcats keep momentum during key stretches.
Bryant & Stratton fought back multiple times in the second half and made several late pushes, but Southeastern Illinois was able to hold on down the stretch to secure the win.
The Bobcats will now turn their attention to the consolation bracket for their final matchup of the season.
