1/15 Bobcats Can't Slow Down Hawks
The Bobcat's Men's Basketball team took on the Hocking Hawks in a home OCCAC matchup Saturday, dropping the contest by a final score of 73-44. The Hawks continue their hot start as the win over the Bobcats was their 15th in a row to start the season. The loss drops the Bobcats record to 0-3 in OCCAC play and 2-10 overall.
Larry Reynolds led the Bobcats with 12 points and 11 rebounds, finishing the contest with his first double double of the season. Tareeq Roper also finished with 12 points. The first half was reminiscent of 2020 Bobcats Hawks matchups as the teams battled for first place in the conference. The score went back and forth with the largest lead being a 5 point advantage by the Bobcats with 8 minutes to play, only for that lead to be erased by the Hawks who would take a 28-26 lead into the break. The Hawks defensive game plan was apparent from the opening tip. Don't let Deval Harrell touch the ball and make the other 4 Bobcats on the floor score. Larry Reynolds proved to be up for the task as he turned in 7 points on 3-9 from the floor and pulled down 9 rebounds in the first 20 minutes of play. Harrell was able to supplement 5 points, most coming from the free throw line as there were Hawks hanging all over him everytime he got in the lane.
Coming out of the break, the Hawks made a point of keeping Reynolds, and the rest of BSC, off the boards and won the game by cleaning up the glass. the Hawks out rebounded the Bobcats 23-9 in the second half, limiting BSC's opportunities at second chance points and holding them to just 18 points in the final 20 minutes of play. While the Bobcats managed to bottle up OCCAC leading scorer Trevell Adams, limiting him to 10 points on the night, the Hawks were able to find offense in James Moore, 26 points and 10 rebounds, as well as Chris Peoples, 11 points and 7 rebounds.
The Bobcats will look to get back in the OCCAC win column when they take on Edison Community College Saturday the 22nd at Ursuline College. As always, that game will be available on our Youtube channel Bobcat Athletics BSCOH.
