Harrell Ties Single Game Scoring Record In Loss To ISA
Harrell ties school single game scoring record in loss to ISA
The Men's basketball team hosted ISA basketball in a high scoring non conference matchup Wednesday evening, dropping the contest by a final score of 94-91. Deval Harrell led all scorers on the night with a new career high, and school regulation game record, 38 points. The B&SC Men's team has seen one other 38 point performance to date by De'Sean Reed in 2019. Reed finished with 38 points in a 108-101 overtime victory against Columbus State. Reed had 32 points at the end of regulation and led his team to victory with 6 points in the 5 minute overtime. Harrell, who finished as OCCAC player of the year in 2020-21 has picked up right where he left off averaging 25 points per game and shooting just over 50% from the field. He would finish this game with 38 points on 15-26 from the field, with 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Also finishing in double figures for the Bobcats on the night was Sophomore Larry Reynolds who finished with 18. Freshman Perry Fullum finished the contest with 11 and Freshman Tareeq Roper finished with a new career high of 12.
This game was as close as it gets with 11 lead changes throughout. The Bobcats would take a 2 point lead 5 minutes into the second half on a Larry Reynolds jump shot to put them up 58-56. That would be their last lead of the night as ISA would immediately go on a 16-2 run over the next 5 minutes to take a 75-60 lead. The 15 point deficit was whittled down to 2 points with just over 3 minutes to play, but that is as close as the Bobcats would be able to get to leveling the score. ISA's tremendous 3 point shooting (61%) would prove to be the difference in the game as the Bobcats finished the game with more rebounds, assists, and points in the paint, but the 26% mark from three point land was not enough to keep up with ISA. The team will be back on the court in an OCCAC match up with the red hot Hocking Hawks this Saturday as they look to end the Hawks 13 game winning streak and hand them their first loss of the season.
