Bobcats go 3-0 over the weekend
The baseball team was in action three times this weekend winning all three. On Friday they topped Lakeland Community College 14-13, and on Saturday they took both ends of a double header with Lorain County Community College by scores of 11-4 and 10-0.
Tylor Wolfe led the team in hitting across the 3 games recording 6 hits including a double and 2 triples while scoring 4 times, driving in 2 more, and swiping 4 bases. Ryan Horstman followed Wolfe with 4 hits including 2 doubles while scoring 5 times and driving in 3 himself.
Lakeland
The Bobcats jumped out in front early putting up 7 runs in the first inning. The inning would start with two free passes followed by 5 hits including a 2 RBI double by Sophomore Dylan Cutler to give the Bobcats a 7-0 lead. Lakeland would strike in the first as well as they answered with 3 runs off 3 hits including a double and a triple in the bottom of the inning; Bobcats lead 7-3 after a very exciting inning number 1. The Bobcats would answer the Laker runs with a little two out lightning as a walk to John Costella and back to back doubles by Wolfe and Freshman first basemen Noah Brite would drive in 2. A pair of errors on the Laker defense would allow 3 more Bobcats to trot home before the inning ended with the Bobcats plating 5 two out runs and leading 12-3. The Lakers would get one back in the bottom of the inning making the score 12-4, and the Bobcats would get one more run in the 7th on a Cutler sac fly to score Jackson Homage and 2 more very important runs in the 9th. The Bobcat defense, usually solid, was a little shaky as they committed 7 errors in the game and allowed 7 unearned runs. Three of those unearned runs came in the 9th inning giving Lakeland a chance at a comeback before the Bobcats were able to end the game with the 15-14 victory. Tylor Wolfe finished with 3 hits on the day including a double and triple. Jackson Homage, Aaron Minranda, Dylan Cutler, and John Costella all finished with 2 hits a piece. Justin Simons got the win as he went 2.1 innings allowing 4 runs, 3 earned, on 4 hits while striking out one.
LCCC Game 1
Some early offense and defensive miscues would once again put B&SC up early as Ryan Horstman would get hit by a pitch and then steal second and third before scoring on a Christian Boyles single to right. Boyles would steal second and third and score as the throw to try and get him at third ended up in left field to put the Bobcats up 2-0. The Bobcats would strike for 2 more runs in the 2nd. A Matt Blanchard double would score Aaron Miranda. Wesli Fernandez would run for Blanchard and score later in the inning on a pass ball to put the Bobcats up 4-0. Jagger Jefferis would once again make quick work of the LCCC hitters, retiring them in order. The Sophomore left hander would toss 3 scoreless innings not allowing a hit while striking out six. The Bobcats would tack on another run in the 3rd as Tylor Wolfe would score on a pass ball to make the score 5-0 B&SC. LCCC would show some life with a 2 run home run in the top of the 4th to make the game 5-2, but the Bobcats would squash any hopes of a comeback with 4 more runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Three walks to load the bases would set the table for a Ryan Horstman double to left field to score three. A sac fly by Boyles would score Horstman later in the inning to make the score 9-2 going into the 5th. The Bobcats would add a run in the 5th on a Noah Brite towering home run to left field, and another in the 6th on a Hudson Cornett RBI single. LCCC would get single tallies in the top of the 6th and top of the 7th, but that would be it as the Bobcats would win 11-4. Connor Lovejoy would relieve Jefferis and throw 2 innings allowing 2 runs on 1 hit while striking out 4. Sean Barber would throw the last two innings allowing 2 runs while striking out 3.
LCCC Game 2
The Bobcats, as has been their MO in this three game win streak, would jump out ahead early scoring 6 in the bottom of the first inning to put this one out of reach early. 5 hits including RBI doubles by Logan Wunderle and Gabe Morgan would highlight the big inning for the Bobcats. B&SC would add 3 more runs in the bottom of the second off of a Ryan Hortsman double, Wunderle single, and Tylor Wolfe triple to the right field corner. Wolfe would later score on a Noah Brite sacrifice fly to make the score 9-0 Bobcats. Hortsman would drive in Cornett with a sacrifice fly of his own in the bottom of the 4th to put the Bobcats up 10 for the 5 inning run rule. Nick Oyster started on the hill for the Bobcats looking very sharp as he worked 3 scoreless innings allowing 2 hits while striking out 7. Sophomore Craig Wilson would work the final two innings allowing one hit and striking out two batters. Horstman and Wunderle led the offense with two hits a piece while each scoring two runs. The Bobcats will be back in action against Walsh University on October 6th at 4pm.
